Volume Determination

Purpose: This is a type of stockpile survey done to estimate the value of stockpiles in volume available at the quarry sites. Depending upon the area of quarry sites, a manual or traditional form of survey may take a lot of time and will not be cost effective. Aerial survey alternatively can be cost effective and consumes less time.

• Aerial survey using a calibrated camera fitted into a fixed wing plane acts as a perfect solution to the volume determination at quarry sites and the same is precise with a very minor variance.
• Time spent at site for setting the safety precautions when manual labour is involved is very high when compared to the aerial survey where all the aerial survey needs is marking of some ground control points based on which the aerial survey conducts its flights and measures the stock volume based on this reference. As it’s the machine in use, no much safety precautions are necessary and hence the time consumed for the whole process is quite less.
• Aerial survey is a cost effective option in cases of large areas and in cases of smaller areas a drone enabled aerial survey can be conducted.
• Aerial survey is the most cost effective and the time saving survey method if the data obtained is well understood and used to its full potential .It is also considered to be the safest process.
